Deveryn Ross is the President of the Brandon-Souris Liberals and a Convicted Criminal

Travis Smith is the author of The Smyth Report. He recently published an article on his website that gave details of Deveryn Ross’ 1995 criminal conviction for fraud. Deveryn Ross was a lawyer bofore being convicted, but has since been disbarred by the Law Society of Manitoba.

Deveryn Ross currently serves as the Riding Association president for the liberal party in Brandon-Souris. The point of the Travis Smyth article was that Mr. Ross portrays an excellent example of the types of people you will find in the Liberal party; those who care not for a greater cause, but who are willing to compromise good morals and values to achieve their goals.

Travis Smyth wrote, “I and many others tend to think this website does a fine job of portraying many Liberals as they truly are: corrupt, arrogant, wasteful, and mismanaging. Surely not every Liberal would fall into all of these categories, but I would bet that every Liberal falls into at least one.”

After publishing the article, Travis Smyth received an e-mail from Deveryn Ross. The e-mail included a comment you would expect from a washed up, disbarred lawyer. Deveryn Ross wrote:

“I sue people for fun and recreation, and can easily have a statement of claim filed against you by the close of business tomorrow. You have until then to delete your post, as well as all of the responses.”

What a wonderful life Deveryn Ross must live to be the president of a criminal party of Canada riding association, himself a convicted criminal and disbarred lawyer, who served jail time and sues people for fun and recreation.

I must admit that I think ALL politicians fall into one of those categories. The ones who don't just haven't had the opportunity.
When I hear "I would like to give back to the community" it makes me want to puke.

Horny Toad

I left this post on Travis' Smyth's blog, addressed to Mr. Smyth. It is equally appropriate here:
I agree with Peter Rempel.
You don't know Ross and he doesn't know you. Your post gives no indication of how Ross offended you, other than to disagree with some of your posts. Isn't that what freedom of speech is all about?
I actually suspect that Ross made the "fun and recreation" comment because he was so upset and shocked by your posting - made by a stranger - and wanted to convey that he really wanted you to remove the post.
Instead, you have rubbed even more salt in his wound, and you now brag that your post is now circulating on several more blogs. To what end, Travis? Is your hatred for all things Liberal so great that you would push the guy over the edge? What if he commits suicide because of what you have done? Would that finally make you happy? Would it be sufficient payback for whatever small thing Ross did to offend you?
If you read the stories in the Free Press about his case, you know that he has young kids, for God's sake.
It is this kind of conduct that makes all Conservatives look bad. It is exactly the type of thing that Liberals point to all the time, in order to paint us as "angry white men", happily smearing anybody who gets in our way. I don't think that we attract a lot of voters with that kind of conduct. We drive them away.
If you had any decency, you would have ended this long ago. In fact, you wouldn't have done it in the first place. You don't even know the man.
If he wins his case, you will never scrape the egg off of your face. Do the right thing.

Conservatives look bad because they point out the Liberals harbor criminals in their bosom? That's a pretty smooth deflection Blue Believer- if that's your real name...

It's too bad Mr Ross is a criminal with a family. But Should Society bear the blame if he commits suicide because he is sad he was caught, punished and labeled? What typical tapioca-headed liberal sophistry!

There was a time, I think, when people entrusted with political office were regarded with respect, and few people questioned their integrity...

Sadly, because of the criminal examples of the last 10 years it's an accepted assumption that most Canadians thinks politicians are dishonest.

You should save your outrage, Blue, for the lying politicians that caused the stereotype in the first place: Paul Martin, Jean Chretien, Sheila Copps, et al...

Very Witty...last 10 years of criminal activity. I would suggest you get over yourself. Or was Mulroney merely marking time?
