Live Blogging of Budget Vote 2005 - Vote Ends in a Tie 152-152 - Speaker Breaks Tie To Preserve Corrupt Liberal Government

[4:45 pm CDT] All members of Parliament are now taking their seats for the budget vote. Bill C-43 is up first. This is the original budget bill that the Conservatives have said they will support. This budget bill does not include the additional $4.6 billion of spending that the liberals agreed to add to buy the votes of the 19 socialist NDP members.

[4:53 pm CDT] As expected the full slate of Conservative MPs are voting with the government to implement the original 2005 federal budget.

[4:55 pm CDT] The members of the socialist NDP are now being counted and all three independents have joined in to pass the original budget.

[4:57 pm CDT] The entire separatist caucus is being counted. They are voting against this budget.

[4:49 pm CDT] The bill passes with only 54 votes against coming from the seperatists

[5:00 pm CDT] Vote for the bill to add $4.6 billion of spending to please the socialists is underway. This is it Canada...

[5:06 pm CDT] Parrish and Cadman voted for the budget. The government now has until an opposition day before it can be voted out of office. Assuming Jack Layton keeps his word about bringing the government down now that he got his $4.6 billion of extra spending.

The liberals and socialists all voted in favor of the extra $4.6 billion in spending. This unholy alliance of left-wing zealots got the support of turncoat Belinda Stronach and two independents: Carolyn Parrish and Chuck Cadman.

The Conservatives and separatists all voted against the bill. Independent MP David Kilgore also voted against the liberals.

As a result, the vote ended in a 152-152 tie. The speaker of the house, sighting precedent, cast the deciding vote in favor of the budget bill. That is the story Canada.

The most corrupt liberal government this country has ever known just spent $4.6 billion of taxpayer money and gave a plum cabinet position to an incompetent blonde bimbo in order to buy their way out of a vote rigging scandal.

Once the budget passes, how long before Martin shuts down the house for a few months so there can no motions of non confidence and they survive for the best part of the next year until they need a new budget?

A modern day "Greek tragedy".

The Nation has been hood-winked. The Liberals fell last week.

Thank you Princess Belinda....for saving Canada, or something or other.

So Chucky baby got to "stick" it to the Conservatives for their riggin g of the nomination meeting forcing him to run(susccessfully) as an independant. AND,he got to look sqeeky clean by saying he was voting on the polling of his constituents. If that isn't sweet revenge----------

Toad, most Canadians want to wait on an election...asking his constituents is the reasonable thing to do and I imagine he will be rewarded with re-election.

We will get our election over Liberal broken promises and corruption...there is no doubt about that. By then, more Gomery will be out -- which means more attack material for you guys.

Yes, Martin will now be campaigning on taxpayer dollars for the next little while. With the crap we've put up with for the last twelve years and for all the money wasted, which is 5 or 6 months of airplane fuel especially if it means going to the electroate when they actually want to be asked?

Given the choice between the Mafia and the Quebec Underworld, and a Jesus freak who represents a group of retards who think that 'same sex marriage' is the hot topic- who Ya gonna chose? (Bear in mind, here- all of these people are very well paid, and most of them have never had a 'real job'.

Why are people upset that the government actually listened to the people for a change?
Clerly the electorate didn't want an election, they want action on their priorities. So everyone relax, enjoy your summer. You will have you chance to voice your dismay in the near future. But I gotta tell ya, if Conservatives ever want to connect with all Canadians, they have to stop the childish and degrading comments. Canadians expect better.

the problem IS that they listened to the people. Those people who are like sheep being led to the slaughter. People who don't care that hundreds of millions of yours and my money have been passed around and stuffed into Liberal pockets. People who don't want a "summer election". Who gives a shit what month an election is held? I'm much more concerned about a corrupt government than taking a half hour out of my day sometime in June or July to help our country.
And you're concerned about "childish and degrading comments" (of which both sides are guilty). Wake up!

I can't believe how corrupt our MPs are, this Government is the anti-democracy boogieman and we can't rid ourselves of them?
I'm up for a war for democracy.
God Canadians are pussies.
Revolt, yell, scream, jump up and down.
Do Something you woosies, good god I can't believe I was born a coward, umm, Canadian.
I at least declared war on CPAC's phone in.
Don't wait for better, demand it.
Woosies.

You're right Durward, a revolt is quickly becoming necessary.
Personally, every freakin' taxable dollar I can sneak under the table from now on will be paid that way. Crime Minister Dithers can plan to spend all the billions he wants... I will not be contributing anything more than I absolutely have to.
A tax revolt may be the way to go my friends....

I am amazed by this line from Politics Watch:

"Martin pulled out a minor miracle having survived the first government-approved, non-confidence motion"

Like if Martin was dome kind of demi-god who had contol over all the events. He was as uncertain of his faith as the rest of us. This is another example of pro-liberal media. It makes me sick.

That "unholy alliance" represents a majority of voters. It's called "democracy" Michael, so suck it up like a big boy and let's move on.

You know, one of the reasons the Conservatives can't get any traction in this country is their sanctimonious, holier than thou attitude. Liberal corruption? Yeah it pisses everybody off, but we all remember Mulroney, and Grant Devine, and "The Filmon Team's" vote rigging schemes here in Manitoba and old John A. MacDonald...Conservative parties have no exclusive claim to ethical purity.

A clear majority of voters in this country voted for either the Liberals or the NDP, so a Liberal NDP budget is exactly what they wanted. Time for the Conservatives to realize that insulting that choice with phrases like "unholy alliance" just alienates those voters.

Drop the hyperbole and the feigned outrage and start offering some real, clear policy alternatives and the party might start getting more support. Right now Harper and his crew sound like a bunch of petty whiners, looking for a short cut to power by allying with the sepparatists instead of doing the hard work of actually winning over the voters.

Gotta love the influx of 'left-wingers' on this board.

Enjoy your small victory.

There is nothing persuasive about your taunts in here.

You ignorant Liberals aren't concerned at the circumvension of protocal in the 'house of commons', so as long as your agenda survives.

And if you consistently ignorant Liberals wish to cite Mr Mulroney, keep in mind that it was a bi-partisan effort that reduced the PC's down to two seats in Parliament, after the 'Airbus' revelations.

You Liberals sound to me like you are wiping the sweat from your collective foreheads, after this narrow victory.

As for us Conservatives....we are 'circling' you.

Now get back to the comfort of your MSM.

First of all let me start by saying the Liberals, and by definition all of their supporters in the house, are scum. Notwithstanding the fact that Mr. Dithers should be in jail along with the rest of those crooks, the way they throw our money around to buy votes is despicable. With regard to the comments about Mulroney being crooked therefore we should keep these crooks in power is retarded. At the very least give someone else the chance to show they aren't corrupt. What message are you sending Canada's young people by not punishing the Liberals for blatantly breaking the law. Finally with regard to the Conservative aligning with the Bloc, the Bloc are our natural allies. Hopefully they win power in Quebec, then separate. Then they can lay the blueprint for us in the West to go next. I used to be a staunch federalist but I've had it with central Canada. I want out.

"circumvension(sic) of protocal(sic) in the 'house of commons'..." - anonymous

You mean like Ed Broadbent volunteering to "pair" with a sick Conservative MP by sitting out the vote? Oh wait, like me, he's not a Liberal...;-)

----

"Notwithstanding the fact that Mr. Dithers should be in jail along with the rest of those crooks, the way they throw our money around to buy votes is despicable"

First of all, most reasonable people will wait for all the facts before passing judgement. The crooks should certainly go to jail, but it's up to the court to make that judgement.

Second, it's the govenment's job to use taxpayers' money to pay for programs that taxpayers want. That's not buying votes, its giving the voters what they want. Since the Liberals and NDP combined recieved a clear majority of votes in the last election they have introduced a budget which responds to those voters' concerns. That's called Democracy.

"With regard to the comments about Mulroney being crooked therefore we should keep these crooks in power is retarded."

That would be retarded, but it isn't what I said. I said I don't care to be lectured about ethics by a party that has had its own lapses in the past. I do want to see those responsible punished, but I would hate to see those who had nothing to do with the scandal punished along with them. My point was that scandals can occur on any government's watch; that doesn't invalidate everything about that party. Most Canadians understand that, and as long as the Liberals are offering policies that

For the record, I think it was a tragedy that the old PC party was demolished after Mulroney. The result has been the rise of narrow regional parties and no real opposition. That's never a good thing.

"Finally with regard to the Conservative aligning with the Bloc, the Bloc are our natural allies."

You can't fix the country by destroying it.

Democracy means everyone gets to have their say, it doesn't mean everyone will always get their way.

So stop whining, and get to work if you want things to change.

oops...

...as long as the Liberals are offering policies that respond to the desires of the majority and make a sincere effort to root out the crooks, which is what the Gomery inquiry is all about (something we never saw under Mulroney...) they'll keep their support.

Not my support, like I said I didn't vote for them...

At 7:23 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hermit, you must be naive to think that the Gomery inquiry was called for legitimate purposes.

The inquiry was called last year in order to regain another Liberal majority. It didn't work....

Since that time we've had Cretin's infamous golf ball antics, followed by Cretin's lawyers trying to remove Gomery. Thereafter we had Martin applauding Cretin's actions, as it was widely and jubilantly reported in the MSM.

And lets not forget Gagliano's lawyers, joining Chretien's effort in removing Justice Gomery.

I did say that Liberals are ignorant....with NDPer's even more so.

With that in mind, your example of "pairing" as suggested by friendly Ed Broadbent....IS NOTHING NEW.

Its been done in the past.

You people can't even argue.

No wonder we're circling you.

All we heard last year was the Conservatives called the Reform/Alliance/Conservatives. There were comments such as, "this is not the Conservative Party of 10 years ago". I wondered when Team Dinosaur Leader Martin would learn the proper name of our party. Well, itseems the second someone at the Sponsorship Inquiry said the Conservatives were worse under Muloney, everybody seems to be calling us Conservatives and talking about Mulroney. That's fine with me.

Martin and crew should be hanging from the neck out front of the parliment buildings.

Hermit, Are you 'The Devil's Adovcate"? If you are I will forgive you for the platitudes.
For those of you have ignored those of us that voted Conservative in the last election; keep this in mind we voted FOR Stephen Harper and his fine M.P.'s. We got what we voted for - you people voting Lib got PM 'Wacko Jacko' or did you vote FOR that? Personally, I see no difference between what you voted for and what you got...that seedy, cheap cigarette Commie stink seems to eminate from both the parties of the far left.
My apologies to REAL smokers (like myself) who actually like to smoke. Keeps the fanatical health freaks away - just tell them you like to smoke and you get horror, gasping, a lecture on the 'evils' of the LEGAL weed....if a person is bored or tired of the co. they are forced into....just bring up "Smoker's Rights and the Charter, Stupid" in the same sentence.
